Lovozero tundra is a mountain range located in the center of the Kola Peninsula. The tundra is characterized by the complete absence of trees. The main vegetation of the local tundra is various types of mosses. Many legends are associated with the Lovozero Tundra among the Sami – the ancient inhabitants of the Kola Peninsula. The Sami made sacrifices here in order to propitiate the Sami spirits and get a good harvest and catch. At the foot of the mountains is an abandoned ore mining plant, where one of the mines once discovered a huge concentration of minerals – more than 80 different minerals on 20 square meters! We will take a walk along the western slope of the mountains, enjoy beautiful views of Lake Umbozero and the Khibiny Mountains. In the second half of summer, you can enjoy plenty of northern berries – blueberries, blueberries and lingonberries.
